The Only Place
Site-specific happening
2018

October 14th, 2018, I made the Chicago Lakefront Trail into a map of the Pacific Coast Highway, at a scale of 1:36.9. In this map, the Trail stood in for the Highway, the Lake for the Ocean, and the City for the State. I then walked from one end of the map to the other. This exercise had two motivations: to  explore of the elasticity of cartography by using one place as a map of another, and to take advantage of maps’ ability to connect us to the places we might rather be.

These postcards commemorate significant sites on the map of California, such as Malibu, Big Sur, and the Golden Gate Bridge, using photos of those locations taken during my walk.
